The Project
Tri-Area Community Health, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) will establish an express care clinic and pharmacy with telehealth access in the recently closed hospital in Grayson County, Virginia. This initiative aims to restore urgent medical care and behavioral health services, support local students through telehealth partnerships, and provide lab services for patients seen at regional telehealth-only sites.
Work to be Conducted:
-
Renovate and equip the facility to house an express care clinic and pharmacy, including drive-through services.
-
Recruit and onboard staff for the pharmacy, including a pharmacist, pharmacy technician, and cashier.
-
Promote the project through news stories highlighting its impact on health care access in Independence and Grayson County.
Goals to be Achieved:
-
Expand medical access by providing 1,800 urgent care visits to at least 600 patients.
-
Increase behavioral health support with 450 visits for at least 150 patients.
-
Improve pharmacy access by filling 50 prescriptions per day, including 15 daily for non-patients.
Healthy Appalachia Institute Next Steps:
As this program unfolds, we aim to better understand how establishing an express care clinic and pharmacy with telehealth access may impact access to urgent and behavioral health care in Grayson County. Additionally, we seek to learn in what ways restoring local health care infrastructure enhances medical service availability and pharmacy support for residents and telehealth patients.
